AMC

The Academic Medical Center (AMC) at the University of Amsterdam is the largest university medical center in the Netherlands. The AMC complex houses the University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands Institute for Brain Research, the medical department of the Royal Tropical Institute and The Netherlands Ophthalmic Research Institute. Moreover a number of biotech companies, partly spin-offs of research activities of the AMC are located on the premises. The combination of these institutions provides a fertile soil for fruitful scientific collaboration.

The AMC was the first institution in the Netherlands to completely integrate the university hospital and the medical faculty into one organization. This integration enhances the coordination of basic and clinical research and stimulates close cooperation in research fields. The research activities at the AMC are focused on translational medicine ('Bench to bedside' and 'Bedside to bench').
